Best Fishing Rods for Beginners
The rods I list below are versatile and among the best fishing rods you could possibly buy. They are strong and sensitive with the ability to handle hard fights with big fish and detect light bites from small fish. You will never grow out of it and you can always rely on it. They are one of my favorite go-to rods as far as versatility is concerned. If I only had one rod to use for the rest of my life, it would be a 7 ft medium-heavy fast action. This is mainly because I already know the type of fish I like to target, my preferred fishing style, and the action I like my rod to have.
For your first rod purchase, I strongly suggest buying anything between a 6’6” and a 7’2” medium power spinning rod. It is entirely up to you whether you want a light/fast rod or a slow/heavy action rod. Keep in mind that a fast/light action rod will be a little more flexible and sensitive at the tip of the rod than a slow/heavy action rod. Alternatively, a slow/heavy action rod will be a little more sturdy and rigid at the tip of the rod than the fast/light action rod. What this means is the fast action rod will allow you to feel lighter bites and smaller fish more easily whereas the slow action rod will handle bigger more aggressive fish with ease. Whether you go with fast or slow action, a medium powered spinning rod is where you should start.
